Words from our Creative Director

What a month it is has been…so many events in Moora, in Australia and worldwide teaching and re-teaching us the lesson of finding joy in your passion.

American gymnast, Simone Biles, withdrew from Tokyo Olympics saying she just wasn’t in a good place with the pressure of competing. Ash Barty shared her journey with her mental therapy coach — a coach who raised her awareness of finding her love for tennis again; for being present and for being joyful and loved. The importance of holding on to the enthusiasm we have for our passion is crucial.

In the arts, we can experience similar moments as an arts practioner or teacher. When GSAC took on being an ArtsHub we wondered how would we perform compared to other arts collectives through the state. Would it be competitive, would we feel anxious? The answer is a resounding no! Being part of the Regional Arts WA Arts Hub gives us the confidence to learn new ways and be collaborative with our Hub partners around the state. We are thrilled to meet, exchange ideas and support our fellow Arts Hubs. Watch this space for new workshops, collaborations and arts initiatives!

Happenings

Oh, what a night! Oh, what a week! Moora’s very own Kerry Leigh hosted her first solo exhibition at the Gardiner Street Arts Collective to praise, delight and the sale of many of her original pieces. A large crowd gathered on Friday 23 July for Kerry Leigh’s exhibition opening, which included a guided tour through the gallery and wine tastings from Talisman Winery. The opening night also gave Regional Arts WA their first glimpse into the workings of GSAC. Hub Coordinator Gemma Robins popped in to meet the team behind one of the newest Hubs in the Regional Arts Network.
