You are invited to get creative! We know you have a masterpiece in that heart of yours just itching to escape through your hands! Please share with us here at the Gardiner Street Arts Collective and encourage that shy creative in your life to share too. Our 2021 Community Exhibition will be opening on Friday 3rd and run over two weeks. Our exhibition opening will coincide with Moora’s Bed Race, so the town will be buzzing with people.
Our Theme for this year’s exhibition is ‘country’ and we are accepting all 2D and 3D interpretations of the theme. We’re looking for digital paintings, drawings, photography – you name it, create it, we will exhibit it! Open to artists 15 years and over.
Are you a Basket Case? Then come along to GSAC to find your soul sisters! We are thrilled to be hosting local creative Glenda Blyth (AKA BasketCase Lady) on Saturday 23 October for a Bush Basket Making Workshop. Using recycling and found materials, Glenda will teach you how to make your very own basket that you will complete and take home with you. Jump over to our Socials to book your ticket.

GSAC welcomed The Society of Women Writers to GSAC and, over two fabulous days, subjects including The Very Short Story, Erotic Writing and Life Stories were workshopped. Workshop participant, Emma Kelly, commented that she, “Loved every minute – the workshop was so well presented and fun too.” Ranging in writing style from economic and effective, to arousing and sensual, the workshop appealed to all styles. As one workshop participant put it, when chatting about her erotic fiction piece, “You don’t need to be an acrobat to write about the trapeze!” Budding writers from Perth, Watheroo, Dalwallinu, Moora and Dandaragan joined together to support and encourage each other on their creative journeys.
Wicking garden bed demonstration – participants bought their friends, their family, their gardening tools and the spirit of fun with them in what turned out to be a fantastically productive day! It is heart-warming to see so many members of the Moora community jumping in to be part of the evolution of the community garden.
Strike a pose. There’s nothing to it. DRAW. While the Gardiner St Gardeners were outside creating, GSAC’s Creative Director Nyree Taylor was inside tutoring budding artists. A group of artists from beginners through to the more experienced were guided by Nyree on drawing with charcoal – creating form, texture and depth on paper. Local artist, Emma Spong, provided the perfect inspiration for the class as the figure model. The pieces produced by workshop participants were stunning and provide a great base for future works.
No Lights, No Lycra moved its way into GSAC and what a first night it was! NLNL Mover-in-Chief, Kylie Hall was thrilled after the first session. “I didn’t really know about No Lights, No Lycra until I saw it advertised and I was quite intrigued”, she said. “GSAC called for a volunteer and somehow it became mine! Our first session was great, but it did take us a little while to get into it. Once we got there, we created incredible energy within the room. There was no holding anybody back – we were all free, having fun and totally energised. What a super awesome way to start the weekend. Kylie invites everyone along for this Friday night’s session at 6 pm. Word on the street is that there will be drinks next door afterwards to harness the energy later into the night.
GSAC is loving Yarn Club, ably lead by our head Yarn Queen, Lynlee Murray. Yarn Club is a wonderful forum in which to learn a new skill – so many friendly hands ready to help you out if you drop the odd stitch or two. Keep an eye out on Socials for Yarn Club’s next session.
