Riot, girls. The suffragettes walked, so we could run. More than a century after the very first International Women’s Day, it is more important than ever that men and women stand together in support of equality. The theme of 2022 International Women’s Day celebrations is #BreakTheBias and encourages us to imagine a gender-equal world, one free from bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. By working together, we can forge quality for all regardless of gender. Collectively, we can all #BreakTheBias.
I, for one, am looking forward to the IWD Breakfast Celebrations at Jeanne d’Moore where will be hearing from a range of local change-makers and innovators. Among them will be GSAC board member, Tracy Lefroy, who will be sharing her story and challenges from her ‘bias breaking’ career. Let’s join together, eat pastries and celebrate the women in our community.
2022 promises to be full of wonderful opportunities here at your Arts Collective. We are seeking a new GSAC Coordinator. Our Coordinator will have great communication skills, marketing, and computer experience. This is a position that truly provides great fulfillment, watching artists and community come alive through the power of art. If you, or someone you know, is a champion for the arts and loves bringing people together, we’d love to know!

ARTS HAPPENINGS
The Gardiner Streets Arts Collective will be playing host to it’s very first ‘pop-up’ Arts Project. In a collaboration between Regional Development and Noongar Business Development Consultant Robert Miles and talented local artist, Madeline Anderson, this project promises to bring creative magic to Moora and surrounds.
The upcoming, free workshops for Aboriginal creatives will include professional artists offering learning experiences through acrylics, water colours and basket-weaving. The workshops will cover themes including Capture the Season, Community Through Your Eyes, Create Your Night Sky, Natural Gathering, and Leaving Footprints. The Community Garden ‘out the back’ continues to grow, despite the heatwave that is the 2021-22 summer! There are rockmelons, spinach and zucchini ready for you to enjoy. The garden beds planted out to native and endemic specus are looking great – a powerful reminder that plants thrive when planted in the right environment.
